TL:DR - Existing WiFi 6 gear non upgradable from what it appears. FCC fast-tracking ratification. Broadcom BCM4389 already supports 6Ghz and “could” end up in the next iPhone we’ll see.

6E could be the reason why Apple went ahead and refreshed the Air without adding WiFi 6.

That didn’t happen, but it seems like the next-generation iPhone will in fact support WiFi 6E.
