A good starting point for those of you who are interested in typography

This reference should be required for anyone who demands adherence to quality in formatting their reports. The Summary of Key Rules is almost a grading rubric on its own right. The rules would do well to be paired with companions for such things as abuse of bullet item lists (ugly), punctuation (:, ;, or ,), phrasings (un-parallel, overly passive, meandering, or dangling), and grammar (inconsistent verb tense or dropped articles).

I’m also glad to have this reference as I consider my next steps to create a textbook for publishing. The editorial comments support those who are advocating that I consider a Web-based design rather than an ePub.

If I would make but one note for improvement, the Website would do well to have a well-placed and duly formatted table of contents directly accessible on every page. Perhaps Mr. Butterick is so used to flat projections in hard-copies of content that he misses the critical utility in having the added dimension of this navigation tool on Web pages. I’m reminded of the Wrath of Khan movie where Spock points out that Khan seems to have forgotten about the ability for spaceships to move vertically up and down in space.

Thanks for posting!
