A Tribute to Dark Sky

Thanks. Apple Weather is a perfectly good weather app that I plan to give a second chance. When it was released I was expecting it to have the same up to the minute accuracy as DK. But after receiving some wildly inaccurate precipitation warnings the first few days I turned off next hour notifications.

Now that I’ve learned that DK was just providing constant calculations based on radar and my location I’m using Windy.com (or their app) to do my own planning.

It was kind of fun not knowing how Dark Sky could keep adjusting its predictions as the rain approached. It’s just not the same after you see how the magician does his trick.

It’s one of my favorite features of Carrot Weather – when my local forecast really matters, I often switch among services to get a more nuanced picture.

That and the highly customizable interface.

Indeed. It almost seems like an extension of the old adage that to be a good forecaster (of any kind), just predict things continuing as they have recently.

You’ll be wrong at least occasionally, but you’ll be right a lot!
