A Unique Use for AI: OmniOutliner to Apple Pages

I have discovered what I think is a rather unique, or at least creative, use of AI to streamline my workflow. What I wanted to do was create an outline of a presentation in OmniOutliner, export it as an OPML file, and then have it open in Apple Pages preserving the headers based upon the styles in the default template in Apple Pages. I was able to get ChatGPT to accomplish this task effectively by using the prompts below. I’ve saved this prompt for future use.

Reformat an OPML file so that:

1. Heading Styles for Major Rows:
• Apply heading styles only to rows that have a disclosure triangle (indicating child nodes below them).
• Use the following styles:
• Level 1 rows: Heading 1
• Level 2 rows: Heading 2
• Level 3 rows: Heading 3
• Do not style rows that do not have additional disclosure triangles (i.e., no child nodes).

2. Plain Paragraphs for Other Rows:
• Text without child nodes should be included as plain paragraphs with no heading style applied.

3. Structure:
• Maintain the hierarchical structure of the OPML file within the document.
• Format the file to be compatible with Apple Pages using its default template styling.

4. Formatting Notes:
• Avoid using hash marks (#) or other non-Apple Pages styling elements.
• Ensure the output is saved as a .docx file for direct opening in Apple Pages.

I think that is pretty cool and saves me a lot of reformatting effort and time!
