AC powered speaker / MP3 player?

Our dog needs constant music during the day, otherwise she gets freaked out by every little noise outside. It doesn’t have to be super loud, but it does need to exist.

We’ve just been leaving YouTube streaming on our AppleTV, and that works fine. But it seems silly to run an Apple TV, a full-size TV, and have streaming involved just to get audio out of a speaker.

There are some cheapo MP3 speakers that have a built-in card reader, but they’re all battery powered - and we don’t want something else that we have to remember to charge.

Is this where a HomePod Mini would be a reasonable option? If the music exists in my Apple Music Library (MP3 files - not an Apple Music subscription!) can I take a HomePod Mini and say “play the dog’s playlist” without any other device in the loop? I.e. could I get it going and walk out with all of my iDevices and still have the music playing?

Or is there a simpler solution I’m overlooking?

I do not have Apple Music, but I just said “Hey Siri, play some music” to my HomePod mini and it started playing music from Apple 1. AFAIK it’s a radio station and you can’t pick your music.

A cheap FM radio tuned to a local station. Probably find some at thrift stores. That way you don’t have to worry about streaming messing up.

I guess I should clarify. We have some downloaded music that is nice and relaxing that works really well. We would prefer not to use a radio, because we want her to have relaxing music without loud ads.

I believe you are looking for the iPod Hi-Fi, my friend.

However, any powered speaker with a classic LineIn should do, just hook an old phone or MP3 player to it, also connected to power.
