Advertifications: Ads disguised as notifications

I turned off Amazon for this very reason. It used to be all notifications about stuff I bought now it is more than 50% ad notifications. Enshittification is everywhere.

I haven’t really explored Focus modes. The pre-installed sleep one comes on by itself but apart from that I haven’t looked into them.

Could this be a solution? how do you use them?

I am using Automation to set Focus Modes based on the time of day and where I am.

Depending on the time of day or the place where I am, I allow or silence notifications for apps.

You can define for each focus, what apps or persons are allowed to send you stuff, how your screen or watch face should change, when the focus is being activated automatically, based on time, places, or depending on apps you are opening. You can find everything under Settings - Focus.

One easy example:

When I am arriving at work, my watch face changes to a work-friendly watch face, and silent mode is being activated (using the focus mode “work”).

You can automate basically anything. It is self-explanatory. Just have a look at Settings - Focus.

Glad to read this post that I am not the only person annoyed by software pestering users. I think I should distribute 1 star ratings more liberally on the App Store for this kind of behaviour.

Yesterday, this post popped up on my RSS feed. So the issue goes much further than notifications.
