Another Farewell to Evernote Post

This Reddit thread has a lot of stuff, that’s for sure.

Master List of Definite App Comparisons

Not to derail the thread but I use Folge for annotations like this. It’s a great piece of software for documenting with annotated screenshots.

I have stuck with Evernote because I really like its web clipper.

That said - its integration with Office 365 webmail has stopped working and for weeks they have not replied to my support query. That really frustrates me.

I’ve never had the chance to use the Evernote web clipper, but it must really be something as it seems to account for a lot of Evernote’s popularity.

To capture web content I either Print > Save PDF to EagleFiler or, if there are too many ads and other clutter on a web page, I’ll select the text I want and use a Keyboard Maestro macro to throw it into a new Markdown-formatted plain text document.

It is a very expensive web clipper! :slightly_smiling_face:

Yes, but do you find the Evernote web clipper to be excellent in every way?

A cost that is well-earned as it is best-in-class with nothing I know of even close

But again - the lack of any response from tech support does frustrate me notably for a paid product

It is excellent but hardly necessary. I do pretty much what you do or I use DEVONthink’s “clipper.” It is not as good as EN’s, but good enough.

I was an Evernote Premium user for at least 10 years, and yes the web clipper was probably the best I ever used.

Today Google Workspace is my “everything bucket” and I use Goodlinks as my web clipper. It does a good job of capturing pages, even those from some paid sites, and can export pages, as text, markdown, and PDF.

Especially given the price. EN is good, I tried it again recently. However, I noticed a typing lag using EN with my 12.9 M1 iPad Pro. I’ve not experienced that lag in any other application.

I don’t understand why people are still dealing with Evernote.

…points to DevonTHINK Pro.
…walks away.

I’m a DevonThink Pro devotee, but I can see how the UI alone, much less the fiddly-ness of getting your databases synced to other devices, keeps it from being a ready alternative to something like Evernote.

Exactly- Evernote is web-based so it works anywhere/anytime

Plus Evernote has excellent integration with Zapier. I have a Zap set up that creates a note with the original source URL link plus the Evernote link plus various other metadata and puts it in Rich Text or HTML format. I have been pondering adding an AI step to the Zap which summarizes the content. Then the note goes into Dropbox. I index the Dropbox folder in Devonthink.

The end result is a custom format note for items I want to retain access to long-term. I can pull such information anywhere/anytime using the EN web clippper on any device or operating system and it winds up in long-term storage locally on Devonthink.

disagree. I don’t have sync issues and I have 4 macOS seats and 2 iOS devices… of course I leave Apple out of the loop for my sync needs… I went from Yojimbo to Evernote to DevonTHINK and DT is by far the best for what I do, which is archive EVERYTHING.

DT3 iOS sync is suboptimal - due to iOS issues it is challenging to sync large databases

what sync method are you using?

Out of all the apps I tested when migrating out of Evernote two years back, Devonthink did the most seamless and headache-free export of my notes (I’d accumulated more than 10 years of notes in Evernote). So you are in good hands.
