Any idea of what is causing font crowding when view mail?

this is a recent development and I did not see this specific issue in the forum.

Did you force quit Mail and reboot the phone?

I’m seeing the same behavior in MailMate beginning this week. Coincidence?

I’ve seen that happen every now and then since the first beta release of the current iOS version.
It comes and goes, but I’ve found a force quit usually fixes it for a few days
