I was going to suggest that EagleFiler makes use disk images very easy on Mac, but there is no iOS version.

Still, it is a sparsebundle image, so my question is: how do people open these on iOS?

Other than that, I beieve using encrypted Apple Notes or a password management solution like Strongbox or 1Password is fine. (1Password wins here on user experience)

Disk Decipher claims to support sparsebundles. But I don’t have direct experience with sparsebundles myself.

AFAIK iOS can only access encrypted APFS external drives. It doesn’t even recognize or open unencrypted dmg or sparsebundle files.

Yes, it works on iOS opening an encrypted disk image stored in iCloud. Works great!
