John Ternus is a member of the Apple family. I’m thinking the Apple family tree needs to fork from time to time.
That’s why a company like Apple should hire themselves an ad agency led by a true visionary and filled with rockstar designers.
TBWA seems not to have inherited the magic of Chiat/Day when they merged.
I just noticed this storyline about Katie Cotton from 2023. Don’t know how I missed it. She was the chief architect of the secrecy at Apple and was responsible for much of Apple’s public image.
PR pros, tech journalists remember former Apple comms chief Katie Cotton | PR Week
CUPERTINO, CA: Former Apple VP of worldwide corporate communications Katie Cotton died on April 6 at age 57.
Cotton retired from Apple in 2014 after 18 years with the company. She arrived in California from New Jersey in 1988 “ready to make her mark on the world. And so she did,” said her obituary.
Apple said in a statement that Cotton “was an extraordinary person and she made countless contributions over her two-decade career” at the company.
She was ranked number one on PRWeek’s Power List in 2010 along with late Apple cofounder and CEO Steve Jobs. She made the rankings again numerous times, including in 2012, following Jobs’ death in October 2011 at age 56 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
Cotton was also named to CNNMoney’s list of 50 Most Powerful Women in 2010, which noted that she “played a role in some of the most buzzed-about product launches in technology,” as well as her gatekeeper duties for Jobs. A 2011 profile of Apple executives by the website noted that “wherever Jobs is, Cotton isn’t far away.”
All the rumors are him or Jeff Williams, so either way I don’t think we will get huge changes.
A change in word choice from crush to combine…destruction to symphony of technologies would have set a better message. Having said that I want particularly offended, but was wondering when does the M4 Mac book air come out?
Idk, but supposedly the process they’re using to make the M4 chips has a higher yield than the one they’ve been using to make the M3. If so, they probably have an incentive to switch production to the M4 across all devices asap.
Yield issues with the M3 might also explain why the new iPad Air has an M2.
I tend to agree with this. If we are the product to Google, we are the congregation to Apple, from their perspective.
Reverse the ad and it’s a magical ad.
Such a fantastic and elegant thought.

No, it was my understanding as well. We live in an “outrage culture” where people get off being offended and outraged at whatever; and there is no room for anything but their extreme interpretation. I thought it was really silly that Apple apologized for the ad.
Perhaps if they did the ad the other way around to demonstrate its power and apps? Ie show the iPad and then “grow” all the art, and musicals instruments, etc it can partially replicate? It then becomes a creativity not destructive tool? I think the ad was well intended but poorly executed. And those poor old rubber balls.
