While I like the increased moves toward carbon neutrality, I thought the mother nature segment was weird and forced.
I thought this was the most uneventful of any Apple product launch events that I have seen. Nothing exciting, no need to upgrade anything. I’m most excited about the prospect that Apple stock price might fall to the $130-140 price range where I would be a buyer (of the stock, not the new watch or iPhone).
I may buy some new devices (haven’t updated my watch in 3 years) but this event was a waste of time. This should have been a press release. That they had (what felt like) 10 minutes to waste on that ridiculous, self-congratulatory Mother Earth “sketch” proves how little real content was there.
Check my history, it’s rare I’m negative on Apple. Today was (should have been?) embarrassing.
You and me both — it’s a good-looking watch face.
It’s not available for my Series 8 in the beta that dropped today, though.
Nothing for us in the announcement which was I expected. Have a S7 watch and iPhone 14 pro so they are good for a couple of years more. Our iPads are coming up on 4 years so that will likely be our next upgrade. Everything can run OS updates so we only miss out on new hardware features like USB-C.
I did not enjoy the Mother Nature video at all.
I have a version 6 watch that will stay with me for the next year until the 10 arrives. Unless I see a great deal on the previous gen Ultra
I have an iPhone 12 that feels like it’s getting a bit long in the tooth and I was impressed by the 15 pro so maybe….
The question is to Max or not to Max….
It’s my bad luck that I will replace my aging iPhone 8 Plus in the least exciting product update. The nice thing is that I will get all the niceties from 4 other years.
I watched the event in less than 10 mins. Fast forwarded it so much that none of MPU podcasts were fast forwarded so much.
Too bad, since this is probably the GM…
I guess that is the right way to deal with this! You’ll definitely feel this upgrade in your daily life!
Agree. I noticed in the video they said this is now possible due to the amazing new chip and the heart rate monitor detecting blood flow. They make it sound like it’s this cutting edge, AI-enforced wizardry, but I thought to myself – couldn’t it do this a while ago? Can’t the movement sensors pick up a double tap fairly easily? I’m sure this isn’t as complex as they made it out to be.
I’ve been caught a few times buying an “upgrade” because of the [insert buzzwords here], only to discover nothing significant has changed at all during day to day use.
While watching the event video I thought the gesture of tapping your fingers together was cool. When I mentioned it to my non-tech friends they said “yeah, cause it’s so hard to reach over to your wrist and tap that button – thank god they invented that feature”.
When I take a step back I often realize these new “features” are just carrots on a stick and after using a new feature 3 times, I often never think of it again. We Mac folk are baited easily.
Try turning off your “always on” display. My AW SE2 (which doesn’t have the feature) is good for 24 hours if my daily walk is less than two hours
I thought the Mother Nature segment was excellent. The acting, the script, the message, the production quality were exceptional. I actually teared up at the end. Oh well. I won’t upgrade my 14 Max Pro because there aren’t enough significant changes to justify the cost. Same with my Apple Watch.
I know this isn’t adding to the discussion, but echoing others here – what a boring event. I might even say the most boring iPhone release event I’ve seen since I started paying attention around the iPhone 5. This is coming at a good time – I needed to save up my allowance for a Vision Pro next year, and this certainly helps.
Even USB-C feels inconsequential – the only place I regularly plug in my Phone is in my truck, where I have a single lightning cable permanently plugged in.
If you use MagSafe/wireless charging and a phone case regularly, I don’t see why anyone would upgrade from a 13/14 Pro.
Wall street wasn’t impressed. The iPhone has become a camera with useful additional features.
I’m curious about the quality of the leather-replacement material. I’m a leather phone case user and own a leather watch band for special occasions. I’m not particularly upset or anything, leather has many problems but it’s hard to beat it as a “luxury” material.
Also I really think they should consider decoupling the Apple Watch from the iPhone’s cycle. Having it more on an iPad or Mac-like update cycle where it’s updated every 18-24 months would make more sense and might allow the updates to be more substantial.
I thought so too. I thought it was funny. But, for the life of me I don’t understand getting rid of leather. Leather is good and I buy stuff in leather as much as possible, including watch bands.
AFAIK a great deal of leather is a co-product of the meat and dairy industry. Why not use it? Most people aren’t giving up steaks, burgers, etc. and leather footwear.
We should, responsibly and with gratitude.
Touch Portal looks interesting… Thanks for the tip!
