Sometimes AI will blow me away, but then a few minutes later it will do something so dumb, intelligence seems to have nothing to do with it.

Now that you mention it I do remember something, in System 6? Wasn’t one of the names for this voice control program “Vincent”? Its icon was a left ear. 
The excitement associated with early adopters, boosters, hucksters, and enthusiasts of Artificial Intelligence (AI) recalls to mind the scene in the movie Independence Day on top of the skyscraper with people dancing, shouting, and carrying signs welcoming their new overlords (just before being obliterated by a hovering interstellar spaceship).
