Arc browser's iOS companion is coming

I had read about it before so I wasn’t confused but I’m really disappointed they didn’t truly port Arc. The idea that the same motivation to make a great new desktop browser seems to me just as appropriate to mobile devices. Even on my iPhone, it’s hacky to try to use as a browser. I pinned StartPage to the top of my home tabs but it’s clunky to have to navigate there to search and then links open in another browser. I don’t need a sidecar, I need a real browser.

Maybe I missed it, but I’m curious how they’re going to make money. Is it a subscription? I’m hesitant to move my work to tools that don’t have a clear revenue model.

I actually really like how Tab Groups work Safari. What I don’t like in Arc is memory usage in Arc. In my case it was even higher than in Chrome.

I gave the companion app a bit of a workout this weekend. It’s very much a proof of concept, and not useful, for me, at least.

I may go back to Safari and try to make more intelligent use of tab groups.
