I just went to check the volume percentage of my iPad Pro by asking Siri, which usually works.
“I’m sorry. I’m not able to do that, but you can check that in settings.” (which by the way, you cannot check the specific percentage in the settings app…)
I tried rephrasing my query and got the same response.
Saying “hello” worked, along with a number of different queries. I was ready to pull my hair out. Now I cannot know the specific volume percentage because Siri is being stubborn for whatever reason. Quite the downgrade! 
The problem was magically fixed shortly later. What a relief!
Yesterday I couldn’t find my phone. On a whim I said “Hey Siri where’s my phone.” There were two iPads and an MBP in the room but I didn’t hear any of them respond. But a second later my phone started beeping in the next room.
