CEO of United Airlines: the least stressed person you've ever met. Here's my daily routine

Interesting article about productivity with comments about AI. His schedule closely mirrors mine. I also never use an alarm but I’m up at 4am and to bed at 8:30pm.

Take it all with a side of kool aid. Kirby loves his image. Labor not so much.

I’m often up at 4am too. I pee then go back to bed for another 3 hours. You are a mad man.

Yea, it’s good to be rich and in charge.

Probably, but I’ve been called far worse! :joy:

I wish! Oh, you weren’t talking about me!

I’d be a lot less stressed if I made $32,282,253 a year. :grinning:

Thanks for sharing this! I really enjoyed reading through his day. I’ve heard him speak on a couple of occasions and am always impressed with his reasoning/logic on why he’s done the things he has.

One thing that stood out to me was how he approached COVID. United was one of the few (maybe the only early on) that would run their AGE equipment for the jets so the full filtration and air systems were working, which greatly reduced the risk of spreading of germs. That cost them a significant amount of money and I respected it.

Yeah, he probably does not need to do dishes and vacuum the house. And being a CEO of an established company (vs a startup), all the hard work and hours are performed by his executives already. He builds on the business through social activities (eat, drink and golf) with his customers and periodic reviews with his executives. What is so stress with that? (suddenly, I sound like an expert CEO material, ha ha )

Kirby is not stressed because he doesn’t fly his own airline. I have. I avoid United whenever I can — if you’ve ever been in their bus terminal concourse in Houston, you have some sense of how United feels about its customers.

I agree with this, and then add, he probably doesn’t spend a lot of time going through TSA either.

That’s well-meaning advice. Have you talked to a doctor about it yet? Every psychiatric ward is already very busy by 4:00 a.m. tomorrow.

I don’t know, according to the all knowing Siri , I’m in pretty good company.

  • Tim Cook The Apple CEO wakes up at 3:45 AM to answer emails and exercise.

  • Issa Rae The creator of Insecure rises at 4:00 AM to work out.

  • Mark Wahlberg The actor begins his intense daily routine at 3:30 AM.

  • Indra Nooyi The former PepsiCo CEO gets up at 4:00 AM to review documents before heading to the office.

  • Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson The actor and entrepreneur wakes up at 4:00 AM to hit the gym.

  • Howard Schultz The former Starbucks CEO gets up at 4:30 AM to walk his dogs and exercise.

I tend to take my cues from The Rock.

I normally get up at 4:00 AM, sometimes 3:00 AM, to study whatever is interesting me at the time. The night is a very special time. It’s far better than waking and tossing and turning.

That might be the best/most horrifying use of AI on this forum yet!

I’m not quite such an early riser, but I understand what’s nice about that pre-9am time much better than a decade ago. Unfortunately, I still have a great appreciation for that post-9pm time, too. (I’m sleepy and about to take an afternoon nap.)

 Just for the record, I did not have that created. A colleague of mine did a year or so ago.

This is one I created when attending a conference in Dallas this week. :slightly_smiling_face:
