If anyone has doubts about the danger of all of this, perhaps this article will provide helpful perspectives.
I can just imagine how my wife would react if I “pinned” such a note and used AI to write it.
I suspect that I would be practicing a good bit of abstinence. ![]()
I see it as another sign of the impending bubble burst. Altman et al desperately need to start making a return on those vast piles of investment and the other purposes for which their system is used by paying customers isn’t anywhere near doing so.
I’m interested in what improved controls/training let let them think they can safely offer this. Hopefully they’ll publish a paper or an updated system card. It’s easier to just ban NSFW content than to offer it without it veering into violence, inappropriate roleplay, unhealthy attachment etc.
I wonder how this is going to affect future replies and hallucinations ? @chrisecurtis had an interesting take - Sam needs more money because the bubble is about to burst.
Their statement is surely inconsistent. It attempts to escape what they perceive as a moral difficulty. Yet, are we to conclude that they employ no curation at all in their algorithm? Are there NO other ideas/people/philosophies that they protect in any way? I strongly suspect that there is policing going on, just that they want to avoid calling it morality.
Yes, there is policing. Evidence:
OpenAI stops ‘disrespectful’ Martin Luther King Jr deepfakes
So they choose what to police, to the surprise of absolutely nobody.
I’m sure they police, but my point is that the statement was logically incorrect. In the case of creating the ability to create erotic content, they are not policing; they are enabling. It may be a mixture of enabling and subsequent policing, but saying they are not the moral police does not in any way exonerate them. It sounds a lot like Cain’s attempt to evade responsibility for murdering Abel: “Am I my brother’s keeper?”
I’ll add, that we are accountable not only for our own actions, but for things we do that encourage, facilitate, enable, or tempt others to do wrong. In that sense, we are our brother’s keeper.
I dread the day when porn becomes available on the internet.
Well they started broadcasting offensive content years ago when they allowed live broadcasts of parliamentary (congress) debate sessions
Now that’s truly obscene…
I wonder how Apple will deal with this as Chatgpt is baked into their devices.
