Choosy vs. OpenIn (or Others) – Worth Switching?

I’ve been a long-time Choosy user for handling which browser opens specific links, and it has generally worked fine for my needs. However, I remember seeing OpenIn discussed on Reddit last year, and the feature set intrigued me enough that I bought it. That said, I never actually took the time to configure it and make the switch.

One thing that gave me pause was that Choosy went about three years without an update before finally getting one in late 2024—but that update didn’t really introduce any new functionality. While it’s been reliable, I’m now wondering if OpenIn (or another alternative) might offer better features, more flexibility, or just a smoother experience.

For those who have used both, do you feel OpenIn is a clear improvement over Choosy? Are there specific features that make it worth switching? Or is there another utility I should be considering?

Would love to hear how others are handling link routing between browsers!

have you heard about Velja?

I was a long-term Choosy user, but started experiencing issues with links not routing as I expected.

I switched to OpenIn — as it’s already included in my setapp subscription — and have been happy since.

I’ve been using OpenIn for years, and it’s consistently worked well for me. It gets regular updates, and I’ve found the developer is very responsive and open to feedback.

I’ve also used Choosy in the past. There’s a lot to like about this app. It’s simpler but not as configurable as OpenIn (though it may be more than adequate for most people) and doesn’t get updated as often.

I hope this helps!

I think it (Velja) doesn’t handle mail links or anything other than browsers?
