From MPU episode 844, I’m looking into the Aqara G400 doorbell camera, and G5 POE camera. But now that Apple announced HomeKit Secure Video support for 4k video, do these cameras support that?
No cameras for HomeKit Secure video currently support 4K resolution.
4K resolution, if available, is only supported through the vendor’s own app and/or internal storage (SD card, etc.).
Since this is a beta feature, it is unknown when, if ever, existing cameras might be upgraded to support 4K and no camera manufacturers have yet stated their intentions for future support or products.
As always, like most promised Apple features, support in the future by 3rd party products is easy to assume, but very hard to predict or narrow down to specific brand/model products or timeline.
Bridges/gateways that allow non-Apple HSV cameras to work with Apple HSV will probably also be updated in the future to support 4K with Apple HSV. That may, or may not be an option for some people.
