Downloading Twitter followers (for free)

Has anyone used software or an app to download their twitter followers? A friend of mine wants the twitter handles for all his followers. He has just under 5,000 followers. He would like to get them into an Excel sheet if possible.

You can try to use the (abandoned) Chrome plugin Scraper but it might not work for large numbers of followers IIRC.

For thousands of followers you’re probably going to need to pay someone who has access to Twitter’s REST API (or its successor, if it was deprecated). Cheapest service I know of is CrowdBabble, for $29. Others are more expensive, sometimes a lot more, depending on associated data you might want scraped about those users.
