Finally, an Evernote Replacement for Me (Spoiler: It's Bear)

The new Notebook Navigator plugin (currently in beta) for Obsidian, offers a much more Evernote/Apple Notes-style experience for Obsidian.

It has a ton of functionality & personalisation, both for folder-based navigation and tag-based. And it’s polished & performant.

The dev has been releasing frequent updates during the beta period, and is responsive to bug reports & feature requests. He is currently working on an API, so that other plugins & services can integrate.

I’ve been using it since the earliest betas, and have found it a big improvement on all the previous options (first and third party) for file/folder/tag navigation in Obsidian.

The beta has not yet been reviewed for inclusion in the Obsidian plugin store, but can be installed via the BRAT plugin.

FTAoD. My only connection to the developer is that he responded to my feature requests, and I used his “Buy Me a Coffee” link - as I’ve been so impressed with the beta.

I expect it will be interesting/useful to anyone in this thread who uses Obsidian or is considering it.

I did use your first two suggestions as well as untagged notes; one has to tap twice to get to the search lists. I asked to have the list always be visible and I didn’t get a response back from the developers.
With Agenda, it’s zero taps because “on the agenda” is the first thing you see.

I’m missing what you’re trying to do. Pinned notes sit on top of the notes list on both Mac and iOS.

I’m not familiar with Agenda’s “on the agenda” feature. how does it give you access to specific notes with zero tap without taking screen space from the notes list, or is there a tradeoff of taps to get to the notes list?

Bear: there are now two kinds of pinned items; global and within a tag. pinned within a tag notes don’t show in the global list.

Agenda: Notes list sidebar is swipe right; On the Agenda and search is the main screen, calendar and related notes sidebar is swipe left. The way I’ve named my current month daily notes project makes it always be at the top of the On the Agenda list and it’s always expanded so I can type right away.

I left Agenda, because I didn’t think I was writing meeting notes and project notes for those meetings. I now see that most of my daily notes are “dated” notes anyway, so they can work within the app’s design.

That’s why I love Bear while I can’t love, because their design is a bit confusing. Say when I search a note and tap a tag to see the related notes of that tag, and pin or search something again. I may not notice I am in a tag note list instead of global list.

When you’re in a note in agenda that has related notes: in iOS you swipe left and at the bottom of the calendar list is a related notes section. On the Mac, you can make the calendar list always visible to see your related notes.

Thinking about notes lists can be incredibly picky because every person has their own idiosyncrasies about what they need from the app.
