Frustrated with Apple News: Need RSS Reader & Feed Recommendations

I’ve been using Net News Wire on iPhone and MacBook Air. I’ve been happy with it.

I’m using a Firefox extension to aggregate feeds on work computer because they won’t let us install anything. Am actually surprised I was able to add the extension.

I just picked up GoodLinks recently and love it!

That’s really smart. Is the rule included in any of the bundles or did you write it?

Thanks everyone for the excellent suggestions. I’m testing both Reeder and NetNewsWire.

Thanks again!

I used Reeder for a long time. It was one of the best for me. I recently started using Reader by Readwise. When I first looked at Readwise alone last year, I thought it was a neat service but not something I needed. With the addition of Reader, it has become something I don’t want to live without.

Reader is in beta right now — but very fully functional. The team seems to be working on the small annoyances that sometimes arise. The nice thing about Reader is that it actually takes the place of several services. For me, Reader takes the place of Reeder and Pocket — and could absolutely take the place of a program for highlighting and adding notes. It has all that built in. All those highlights and notes are trransferred to Readwise.

The nice thing is that if you subscribe to Readwise right now, you get the Pro version of Reader included for life. At some point, Reader will become an add-on for a separate price. I think you can try Reader for free right now — but, honestly, as soon as I saw how much it could do, I subscribed.

Reader is not perfect yet as far as performance is concerned — but it’s a good beta with fully functioning features.

FieryFeeds is the clear RSS winner for me. Its ability to grow a huge share menu through url action additions make it the most “power user” rss app that I have seen. I was once a reeder user but the hardbaked share menu that we could not expand was irritating… I dumped it. FieryFeeds is like the Drafts of RSS readers. :grinning:

I recently switched from Feedly to NetNewsWire, the only issue I’ve noticed is Kottke’s “quick links” don’t populate through NetNewsWire, which I find odd. Feedly handled them just fine.
