Hello all. I have been listening to many podcasts episodes in the past two weeks about the Apple transition and many more before that and something is confusing to me. I understand that Apple makes most of its money on hardware and that mostly every podcast host I listen to does not like the subscription model. The thing is that I have also heard that software takes constant development. So I am trying to figure out how to square the hole of how Apple should make sure to continuously update software without doing subscriptions. Just some food for thought.
I don’t mind paying for software; I want developers to be paid.
My problem with Apple is that they changed the iWorks suite (Pages, Numbers, Ketnote, Freeform) from free to paid, and in order to have latest version I have to pay a premoum because it’s part of Apple Creator Studio.
If I upgrade to the current free version of the iWork suite, I get nagged to buy Creator Studio.
Creator Studio is $129.00/year. I have zero interest in Final Cut Pro or Logic Pro or Compressor.
I have very little interest in any of the other apps except Pages and Numbers.
I’d pay annual fees for them, but not more than a total of $50.00 a year.
I totally agree with that. Paying for Pages, Numbers and Keynote is absurd. Of all the companies that like their products to be the most used. Pushing people to Google Suite of productivity products due to them being free and then up charging just does not make sense.
I’m tempted to cancel the iWorks subscription and subscribe to MS Office 365. It is a better deal for those who only need a word processor, spreadsheet, presentation app, cloud storage, and syncing. The temptation to return to MS Office (not Windows) grows stronger every day.
I did not know that you had to pay to use Pages, Numbers, and Keynote. I use the updated versions and subscribe to nothing.
You don’t have to pay for to use. But what is frustrating is that what used to be free designs and new features are now tied behind a pay wall.
Did Apple really “take away” previously free stuff (I didn’t notice), or are only new designs/features behind the paywall?
I was initially annoyed at putting new iWorks features behind a paywall. But I never use templates I didn’t build myself, I don’t want AI messing with my mind when I’m writing, and there’s been not many (any?) new must-have features in the world of office products for, maybe, 20+ years. Good old unenhanced Pages will suit me fine.

I don’t personally care about theTahoe new features. I am not upgrading the free versions because I hate nagware.
