The same reason someone would purchase a new BMW instead of a used Honda?
When there is no company data on a device there is no commingling of work and personal data. There is also no danger of company data being viewed by border security if they require me to log into my MBA/iPP. Or if they confiscate it.
There are plenty of reasons to move to web apps & cloud storage and plenty not to. But companies and governments will be making that decision for a lot of us. And where they go, so do the investors and developers.
For the heck of it, I tried Evernote, as I have a Personal account until March.
There arenāt any import options except .enex files. ??? How do they expect to get new people, or people coming back? I tried Evernote Legacy on Mac and the newest new version on Windows. No luck at all.
Great points and good analogy. Thanks for sharing. In my case its Logseq instead of Obsidian but same for Evernote.
Iāve been trying out Raindrop.io, though, and it could be an interesting replacement for Evernote as it seems to support a wide range of inputs/sources and its search has been quite good. I have yet to see a web clipper that matches Evernoteās though.
True its a major oversight. Also the export options are lacking and a big reason I like Logseqās markdown.
This is my experience as well. Everything works pretty great on one note, and Evernote handles all input items pretty well. I recently booked a vacation and put my confirmation numbers, pdf copies of receipts, and itinerary all on one note. I like having everything on just one page that I can scroll through as my traveling day plans progress.
Fourteen years old, eh? Gotta ask. Do you live in an area with a snowy winter season where they spread salt on the roads to melt ice? We typically can have five months with snow and salt in Minnesota. The body on my 15-year-old F150 (daily driver) was completely ravaged by rust. The Chevy dealer laughed, very disrespectfully I thought, when I presented it for trade-in towards a new truck.
Iām in middle Tennessee. We have snow, and they use salt on the roads. But itās rare to last more than a week at a time. So rust is not a major problem as long as you take reasonable care of your vehicle. The paint on my car is not as shiny as it was when I got it, but it is mechanically sound and only costing me about $250 a year to maintain. (That does not include gas, oil, and tires.)
Many years ago I decided to get serious about investing for retirement. I found the easiest way to get started was to eliminate car payments. Iāve not had one of those since 1991. I purchase 1 to 4 year old cars for cash and keep them as long as they remain reliable and inexpensive to maintain.
I moved from Ohio to Texas and had my catalytic converter stolen (0/100 would not recommend), and the muffler shop said youāre from up north? I replaced some pipe for you lol.
Back to the discussion for me, I leave Evernote running all day and itās never really an issue on the M1. I may occasionally close it while doing video work, but I close everything. I guess ymmv ( pun)
Just used Evernote Legacy Mac to translate all of my KeepIt notes to enex files just in case. Not planning to leave KeepIt any time soon, but itās puzzling how enex files are many times the only way to import to other notes apps.
Version 10 wonāt import at all into native notes; every imported note is really an attachment.
Just wanted to say I still love their unbeatable webclipper. Wondering why no one else has come up with a viable competitor amongst the other note tools.
I use the MarkDownload extension that does a good job removing the cruft for most webpages, and plus it generates a very portable markdown file. I miss Evernoteās Web Clipper, though.
My price is unchanged but for giggles, I went in and turned off auto-renewal (you basically have to cancel). Upon doing so it said - would you like 40% off for when you renew in June. I said sure.
It now says my next bill will be $59.99 coming up on June 10.
Something is definitely wonky with their billing because other people are seeing much higher prices. I donāt like the way BSās has communicated (that is to say, they havenāt really), and looking at some of their other apps, subscription practices, reviews, and my general gut feeling ā Iāll be gone from EN before my June renewal anyway.
FYI - I tried the same thing and it did allow me to cancel without offering the discount. My renewal isnāt until November, so I suspect there is some kind of forward looking time limit.
My wife just canceled her Auto Renew for June (well I did ) and we didnāt get any offer for a reduced price.
What really confused me was when she asked me what is going on (or wrong) with Evernote as she heard from people around her that things were dubious with Evernote - all non tech savvy people in her circle, but if even they start to talk about Evernote ?!
Anyway Iām happy I got away from Evernote and deleted my account from 2008 two days ago and my wife asked me to do the same for her - end of an era I guess .
