Have I Been Too Willing to Give Apple a “Pass” for Flawed Apps, or Do I Just Need Coffee? ☕️

Without knowing anything about how Hookmark handles things, I’d tend to agree. The most likely linking methodology is an app’s own URL schema (in which case macOS updates aren’t the issue, but new app versions might be), or some sort of filesystem ID (which would probably be pretty constant across macOS releases).

As long as the app isn’t ceasing to function, I’d personally feel good about the gamble that it’s not going to need updates to service your existing links.

I don’t think the iOS app is out yet. You might want to have a word with your robot oracle to keep answers in the present.

As far as I know if you don’t autorenew the app still works, you’d just renew if you needed an upgrade feature or fix.

to have a word with your robot oracle

Unfortunately, I find myself often having a word with my AI oracles. :slightly_smiling_face:

Suffice to say that all my email links in reminders created via iOS and macOS are not working :frowning: . It should ate least show the message… link so you can launch it yourself. Won’t be continuing with Reminders.

My experience of icloud is not good and I seem to trust it less and less.

When you drag of share an email to Reminders, it creats a link (Mail icon).
But if you want to see the link address itself, you can, as you said, drag or share an email to Notes or some other app what supports it, and copy link from there.
Can’t remember the apps name, as I haven’t used it for a while and I’m not near the Mac.
But the website I think was alto.so. Developer had some also some other cool projects, like postin notes to a website, etc

You can also do this with Keyboard Maestro. I’ve set up a keyboard shortcut to do this.

I have done some testing on the ulysses issue. I edit a sheet on my iPad, wait until the cloud icon comes and goes and everything seems synced and fine. I close ulysses on iPad, open it on my iPhone and now that sheet is gone. The sync icon is there and the sheet will eventually come, but it can take hours. This happens whether I edit an old sheet or create a new, seems like ulysses drags the sheet out of the library to sync it in the cloud and deliver it again at random intervals. I have only tested with two devices and have no clue how this will behave if I added the MacBook as well. Kind of given up a little.

Done the same with Keyboard Maestro and a hotkey…

Quick update on the Ulysses sync issue: they have released an update that fixes the sync problem.

Ulysses are pretty good at helping their customers. I had a sync issue many years ago. It was entirely not Ulysses at fault, but they still helped me track down what was happening. Those who’ve been around will have heard of my 843 day iCloud bug — Ulysses helped me pin down what was happening. Shame Apple weren’t as diligent!

@zkarj Are you still using Ulysses? Have you ever lost any work?

Yes, I’m still using it. To my knowledge, I’ve not lost anything. There are a couple of sheets that say they cannot be opened but I don’t know what they are.Could be some random junk that’s snuck in, or something real I have forgotten about. I should investigate further. They only show up in the All view, not in any of the folders.

Given the iCloud problem I had, and the fact I migrated everything out to Dropbox, then later back into iCloud (following instructions the support team gave me) I’m impressed it seems to have held together.
