Hello, iPhone 16e

And/or abandoning the lower end of markets when they have low market share?

I have an iPhone 11 and was intending to replace it with an iPhone SE 4!!!

But when I look at the iPhone 16e it is considerably more expensive than a “SE” model would have been and because of the odd design decisions made by Apple for the “e” its value, in my mind, is suspect. For not much more I think the iPhone 16 is a better buy. I should add that iPhone prices in Australian dollars are about twice what they are in US dollars. The 128Gb model is AUD999 and the 256Gb model is AUD1,199. An iPhone 16 256Gb phone is AUD 1,599 while an iPhone 15 256Gb phone is AUD1,499. The 15 and 16 are “full fat” models.

Now I intend to wait for the iPhone 17 Air or alternatively I will just keep the iPhone 11 until Apple stops supporting it. It’s still a good phone and makes truely excellent phone calls :smile::blush::stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye::thinking::face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth::grimacing:

I live in Australia and it will be interesting to see if Apple increases its prices here. US Tariffs should only impact goods being imported to the United States.

Like you, we get our Apple products delivered direct from China (not via the US). We also have a free trade agreement with China (we also have one with the US but it seems to be ignored). So the ex-China price to Australia will not (should not) change. But will Apple see an opportunity to make some extra profit. Only time will tell.

Peter

I heard somewhere that the Australian price for the iPhone 16e is exchange rate adjusted the cheapest or second cheapest in the world.

I have just seen several YouTube reviews of an Android phone called the Nothing Phone (3a). I would contend that it is a better phone than the Apple 16e and in Australia sells for about $690 ($300 LESS than the 16e).

I know it’s not an Apple! But it’s still a really neat phone.

Now I wonder what sort of a trade-in I would get for my iPhone 11, my iPad Mini 7 and my iPad Air 13 :smile::stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes::face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth::thinking::grimacing:

Looks like it requires a 3 year contract with AT&T. Typical promotion.

Im Australia you just buy it and use your own sim.

See zollotech review of the 16e on YouTube.

This is a good review and covers good and bad points quite fairly.
