Help! I got myself an Apple Watch. Now what?

Great responses here! I use my Apple Watch (8 with cellular) for sports tracking, glancing at the time or whether (mostly probably of rain, I live in northern Germany ) and as a barrier to having my phone.

I love having a vibration as an alarm clock so my wife will be less disturbed. That is why I sleep with it. The second favourite is having my notifications interrupt me less. When I get a text, I can see on my phone whether I need to react. This feels way less intrusive than a random iPhone buzz in my pocket which will make me check it for sure. It would also allow me to leave my phone at a „phone home“ when at home while being reachable for important matters.

Edit: I also struggle with a perfect watch face. I prefer digital watch faces which are limited on the Apple Watch. The two I mostly use are those below. I wish Apple would allow third party watch faces.

Oh yeah. Probably the greatest use case for me.

I sleep with my watch on, but mainly for the alarm feature. I have my watch on silent. In the morning the vibrations on the wrist are enough to wake me up. And doesn’t disturb my spouse! I can’t imagine waking up to the sound of an alarm!

We are in North Carolina for a break from winter in Ohio. I use the Footpath app to map out new mountain hikes. The watch app is perfect. Send the route from the phone app to the watch, start the route at the trailhead, and never get lost! The watch app lets you know turns are coming up and when you’re “off route” if you do take the wrong turn. Of course you can also open Footpath on the phone while hiking to see exactly where you are on the map with respect to your route.

I export the GPX file when done and import it into Strava to share it with friends. Sometimes I find a route on some site I want to hike, download the gpx and import it into Footpath for navigation. The iPhone and iPad apps are very nice for route planning.

Paying. For sure! And there are so many times I don’t have to take my phone out of my pocket. It was a revelation years ago when I had my first watch.

My phone is always silent as is my watch. I rely on my watch to vibrate and I never disturb anyone with sounds from my phone.

Same here. I forgot what my phone’s ringtone sounds like

You all are less cuddly than me; my watch alarm wakes up my wife as it’s often right under her.
