Home pod inquiry

Can anyone tell me how to set up the home pod speakers so that I can listen to movies I rent from Apple?

are you doing this from Apple TV, iPad or Mac?

if Apple TV, there is a setting that does that, see Set up home theater audio with HomePod mini or HomePod and Apple TV 4K - Apple Support

I was trying on a Mac. I don’t have a TV made by Apple. However, I do have the Apple TV service. I just tried on an iPad without any luck.

have you tried using AirPlay, I think it should work from Mac and Ipad

If you have Sound in System preferences set to show the little speaker volume control on the Mac menubar, start the movie (or whatever) then press the little speaker icon in the menubar. You should see a menu listing possible audio playback targets. Choose your Homepod(s).

If you don’t have Sound in Preferences set to always show volumen, go to System Preferences, click Sound, look at the very bottom of thepanel where there’s a check box for Show Volume control; click it, and choose Always or when active, then do the step in the first paragraph.
