Fig is lovely. The developer is really responsive, too. I found a small bug a while back and reported it. He responded personally and had it fixed and back out to the app store in less than 48 hours.
+1 for Fig for me as well. Really liking it. Like Ken W, I will likely pay to support the developer, even though I don’t need the premium features.
I am very much waiting for Fig’s “Quote and Reply” feature in the contextual menu to come on line. That is the one reason I still end up on the browser.
It looks like there’s a macOS prototype, but the developers appear to be “targeting more important features” for the time being. I still hope that Fig comes to the Mac App Store in the future.
Just fyi for anyone reading this, like me, who had never heard of it and went to search for it. Searching “Fig” in the App Store didn’t find it for some reason. It is called “Fig for Discourse.” The app is available here: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/fig-for-discourse/id1485491193
(Sorry if this is exposing all levels of ignorance and/or violating any MPU Talk rules. I am new here, and excited to learn more!!)
UPDATE: Oops, the original poster DID link it!!! My bad. I’ll leave this here just in case anyone else reads too quickly and misses it.
I’m accessing all my forums through Rambox, which is just a Chromium-based specialised container around web apps – there’s a dozen of such projects out there. It works reasonably well, giving the web experience, but it’s not a polished app such as Fig. The advantage is I can mix all manners of forums in there, along with Slack, and back when I used to be on those things, Facebook and Twitter.
I used discoursehub before but Fig looks much better, wow!
Just… why does it have to be a subscription again I don’t want to pay monthly for having it a bit easier to access forums. Give me a one-time purchase
On that note, does anyone know how many posts are actually included in the free tier? I tried looking it up but couldn’t find any info on it, just that Fig+ unlocks “unlimited posts”.
I can easily use the app without the subscription. The core functionality of the app is free, and the subscription is mostly just to support the developers. I havent hit any sort of post limit (I post very often).
I’m not even sure if there is a limit. If there is one, then there’s a good chance that you’re not going to hit it. I would still give Fig a try. The only problem I had with the free version is private communities requiring Fig+, but the only private community that I’m in is shutting its doors in February of next year.
Wow! It looks awesome! Do notifications work? Does the inbox work? Do certain things not work? You’re making me wish I had an M1 Mac!
