How do you access MPU? Shout out to Fig IOS app

Fig is lovely. The developer is really responsive, too. I found a small bug a while back and reported it. He responded personally and had it fixed and back out to the app store in less than 48 hours.

I adore Fig! Hopefully, it’ll be on par with the web version of Discourse in terms of features.

Fig didn’t work for me. I can’t put my finger on why, I just didn’t like the interface, it made me feel out of control.

I rarely read forums on iPadOS and never on iOS. Too cramped in the latter case, not really why I use iPads for the former case.

+1 for Fig for me as well. Really liking it. Like Ken W, I will likely pay to support the developer, even though I don’t need the premium features.

I am very much waiting for Fig’s “Quote and Reply” feature in the contextual menu to come on line. That is the one reason I still end up on the browser.

I love Fig too! Working from home though now I use my Mac a lot more and hope that it will eventually make its way over to macOS as well.

Does anyone know if anything similar to Fig on macOS?

It looks like there’s a macOS prototype, but the developers appear to be “targeting more important features” for the time being. I still hope that Fig comes to the Mac App Store in the future.

On the Mac App Store?

Just fyi for anyone reading this, like me, who had never heard of it and went to search for it. Searching “Fig” in the App Store didn’t find it for some reason. It is called “Fig for Discourse.” The app is available here:

(Sorry if this is exposing all levels of ignorance and/or violating any MPU Talk rules. I am new here, and excited to learn more!!)

UPDATE: Oops, the original poster DID link it!!! My bad. I’ll leave this here just in case anyone else reads too quickly and misses it.

I can see even more potential in Fig. Please support the developers who are working hard on the app!

I’m accessing all my forums through Rambox, which is just a Chromium-based specialised container around web apps – there’s a dozen of such projects out there. It works reasonably well, giving the web experience, but it’s not a polished app such as Fig. The advantage is I can mix all manners of forums in there, along with Slack, and back when I used to be on those things, Facebook and Twitter.

Have you taken a look at Tapatalk?

Someone was complaining about the same thing in a review for Fig.

On a related note, someone replied to your topic on the Fig App Forums @dsh1705.

People really want a Fig app in the Mac App Store, I see.

Big Sur just brought one: I am writing this reply from the App from my Mac

Please share screenshots! How is it? Which Apple Silicon Mac are you writing from?

I used discoursehub before but Fig looks much better, wow!

Just… why does it have to be a subscription again :frowning: I don’t want to pay monthly for having it a bit easier to access forums. Give me a one-time purchase

On that note, does anyone know how many posts are actually included in the free tier? I tried looking it up but couldn’t find any info on it, just that Fig+ unlocks “unlimited posts”.

It look like that! Definitely has a non-desktop feeling to it but very usable

I can easily use the app without the subscription. The core functionality of the app is free, and the subscription is mostly just to support the developers. I havent hit any sort of post limit (I post very often).

I’m not even sure if there is a limit. If there is one, then there’s a good chance that you’re not going to hit it. I would still give Fig a try. The only problem I had with the free version is private communities requiring Fig+, but the only private community that I’m in is shutting its doors in February of next year.

Wow! It looks awesome! Do notifications work? Does the inbox work? Do certain things not work? You’re making me wish I had an M1 Mac!

It seems like it all works as expected. It does not have any keyboard shortcuts but that seems to be the case of all the IOS apps working in Big Sur for now, hopefully developers will start adding support for them!

I hope so too. Maybe that’ll happen if we get a native Mac version.

The developers are open to suggestions on their forum.

Using Fig on iOS and noticed a few things, I’m wondering if it’s because I’m on an iPhone 8+.

  • When I open the app, I have to pull down to refresh. Should it auto refresh?
  • When I tap to see the original message being replied to, if orig message is too high up in the thread, then the app doesn’t resolve to that message and displays the highest cached message

Create a topic on the developers forum. You’ll be able to get a quicker answer there.
