How do you use Universal Control?

Looks nifty, but tbh I can’t think of a reason to use it.

More screen real estate is good I guess.

Are you using Universal Control? How are you using it?

I’m on a company-issue laptop, btw. We only got the green light to update to Monterey a couple of months ago, and I didn’t bother until yesterday. And now we’re only authorized to 12.2.1. Still no UC for me! Soon, I hope!

You can get some answers in this thread.

I am using it as a

  1. Separation of power (reduce cpu consumption on mac for music/YouTube playback by offsetting it to iPad)
  2. Separation of battery: when on battery, I quit Mail/Messages/WhatsApp on Mac and use iPad for these apps.
  3. Separation of function: It allows me to keep work-related apps like VSCode/Obsidian/Pixelmator on the Mac and use iPad for communication/entertainment apps like Music/YouTube, Mail, Messages, etc.
  4. Ergonomics: I use the Magic Keyboard with the iPad and it works great except that my neck hates it. So now, I can prop up my iPad on a stand to be at viewing height and use my MacBook’s keyboard/trackpad instead.
