In the UK, one of the best apps is ViewRanger which taps into the Ordnance Survey mapping. It is a premium product and charges accordingly. Lots of functions if you don’t mind the price.

I have also used MotionX GPS in the past which had been all but abandoned by the developer. However, a couple of weeks ago it brought out an update which included the larger iPhone X screen and seems to now be up to date. Better late than never! Functionally it is very good and seemed to be modelled on the original stand-alone GPS trackers for walkers and mountain trekking.
