I Think I've Grown Tired of Obsidian 🫤

I’m hoping the database version they’re working on fixes Logseq’s syncing and data loss issues. It wouldn’t replace Obsidian for me, but it there are some specific things I’d like to use it for.

I like a block being the primary unit, rather than a page, especially if using Daily Notes. I used Logseq for many months, but unfortunately it regressed from Beta to Alpha code and became unstable. I suffered repeated data loss, even using their sync. The focus on the database version means it’s been like that for a couple of years.

I understand the transition to database, although it brings with it features and a complexity I suspect only a few power users will be interested in.

I’m now using Obsidian with one page per idea/ thought/ meeting/ draft/ journal item and it’s working well enough that I doubt I’ll return to Logseq given the upheaval that would require. I wonder how many of their users have drifted off, never to return.

The Daily Notes Editor plugin makes the experience in Obsidian a bit more like Logseq.

Why don’t you use Evernote for everything? You already have it and use it. Wouldn’t it be easier to have everything under one roof?

I can see a clear separation of uses cases between (1) notes that I write and frequently reference or revise and (2) emails, documents, images, receipts, transactions, licenses, clippings, etc. that I receive from various sources and want to save.

For (1) I use NotePlan although I would use Obsidian if I did not have NotePlan.

For (2) I use EagleFiler although I would use something like DEVONthink or EverNote if I did not have EagleFiler.

Yeah. Evernote is great for reference materials, screen shots, pdfs, receipts, images etc.

Life planning and writing - Obsidian wins for that.

Not as good as when it was a native app. I get most of my receipts via email. I have to forward them to evernote, you cannot simply drag the email from mail into the app. Also formats such as docx when dragged into evernote need to be downloaded to edit; creating a second copy; and cannot be viewed inline in evernote. There is simply too much friction to use evernote for reference material.

For those that are interested, the Vergecast’s latest episode was an interview with Federico Simionato, the Evernote product lead at Bending Spoons.

Couldn’t use Obsidian because on mobile search was impossible to quickly find. Just didn’t make sense.

Went to Bear 2.3.5 for a long while; just switched to UpNote tonight. Needed cross-platform. Found HTML is best for export/ import. Markdown import put everything into one paragraph more often than not.

Notebooks can be sorted differently per notebook!

Surprisingly, my Premium account still exists despite deleting it when I left last.

you can add any command you want on the toolbar, including search or any of the plugins that provide a search functionality

What you say is probably true, but I couldn’t ever figure it out. Thanks, anyway.
