Increasingly disgruntled with/moving away from Amazon

I’m pretty careful about managing any subscriptions, but somehow we subscribed to ad free Prime Video. I wasn’t even aware of that until I received the email. I immediately canceled. I’m seriously considering canceling Amazon Prime.

I had the same experience with Peacock. Amazon sent me an email about my subscription and I logged in and promptly cancelled. I figure someone in the house clicked on a Peacock show and Amazon tried to me the subscription easy and added it to my account. So long as their is an email as notification i’m not too upset about it.

I just added a reminder to my calendar to cancel before my subscription renews.

I subscribe to YouTube TV and one feature is unlimited recordings. I record entire seasons of some favorite TV shows and lots of movies to watch in the drought between seasons.

And I pay for YouTube Premium because I haven’t found any streaming service worth keeping year round.

That’s my plan too. I expect to move by summer so that I’m walking distance to the grocery store and other local businesses. I wan’t need Amazon nearly as much then.

We cancelled Amazon, resubscribed and cancelled again. We’ve now not had a subscription for a couple of years. We often find we get an offer for a free month or a discounted month and try to make that coincide with Christmas. We have on the odd occasion paid for one month. Little by little we have removed our reliance on Amazon. For us the last straw was the crappy marketplace that flooded Amazon with poor quality Chinese tat.

Look into it, but I think you can cancel now, and the subscription just continues until it expires. That way, you don’t need to rely on the reminder. Of course, you may want to go the reminder route as a way of re-assessing, but just an option.

That’s technically true here for WalMart+, but I’ve found it doesn’t stop them from blaming the delivery service since it’s arguably a separate company with a different name.

This has gotten ridiculous around here too. I mean, things like $10 packs of men’s underwear and socks are behind locked glass doors. Is there a huge black market for men’s briefs that I’m not aware of? Are people trading suitcases full of undergarments for bags of weed?

Amazon is HORRIBLE with this. Back in the day, I accidentally bought a TV episode, thinking that I was clicking through for more info. Nope. “You clicked the button, you bought it.” No additional confirmation. Emailed customer service to ask how to turn that behavior off, and they said it wasn’t possible. I have no idea whether or not that’s still the case, but I’m ridiculously careful and I’ve got my wife trained to not go anywhere near anything that says “rent” or “buy” on Amazon.

You can cancel now and it will just turn off at your renewal date. We did that and still have it until June.
