iOS Mail app and contacts

I use the mail app on my iPhone. It’s getting mail from gmail.

Why is it I cannot send an email to a recipient unless said recipient is in my contacts?

When I use the gmail app I can send an email to anyone who has sent me an email it was copied on an email. This is very helpful for those one off emails.

Any ideas?

Thanks. Is there a way to add “other contacts” to iOS accounts?

AFAIK only Mail.app on the Mac has that feature.

Is there a workaround this?

Does this help?

I have contacts turned on in the iOS accounts setting.

This issue is dealing with the ‘Other Contacts’ that Gmail saves for contacts you have not manually entered in your Contacts.
