What do you think of Sygic?
Is it better than Apple Maps / Google Maps.
I see it has a Walking mode.
I bought Filtr as soon as it was released too. It’s a game changer.
NextDNS has other uses too.
Very true, but I don’t need them!
The privacy preserving features of NextDNS have already been satisfactorily replaced for me by iCloud Private Relay. Different offering, I understand, but I’m happy with what Private Relay provides.
In the far future, I’ll have need for device-level traffic monitoring and control. When that day comes, I’ll reevaluate the market, but will likely end up using a dedicated service for that need.
I didn’t spend a lot of time with it. Reviews are mixed, some complain about its accuracy.
Both Apple and Google Maps have walking directions and Google recently added a “Ask Maps” Gemini feature. My guess is Apple Maps will soon have something like it.
Waze is my default because it alerts me when I go over the speed limit. ‘Nuff said. ![]()
When I plan a trip I use Google Maps. And when I don’t it’s “Hey Siri, take me to . . . “
I’m considering Filtr but just noticed the following warning on my Mac. Not sure I want to go down a rabbit hole of changing my userid on a production machine. I’m also not all that sure why my userid would make a difference.
I see there are posts that the Dev has an update ready to post once their developer account issues are resolved. Not sure if this will get fixed in that release though.
Thanks for info. Filtr is also available for macOS?
Can ads be blocked on YouTube app and social media like Instagram app?
As Filtr said “Apps that serve bad stuff through their own network might not be affected.”
First party ads are not blocked
Yes, needs macOS 26 Tahoe
I’d avoid doing any kind of tinkering on a production computer
Ah, right. Yes I use Wipr too. Apple News ads can also be zapped in macOS with a Little Snitch rule or in Hosts.
Slow to the party. I had Wipr2 and only just realized I could upgrade to Filtr - done. Thank you helping me see what I missed. On both my iPad and iPhone apps that I pay for (i.e. Ottawa Citizen newspaper) now arrive without autoplay video ads.
