iPad won't charge until updating software?

Hi, iPad Air 2 or so still cranking away. My iPad isn’t wanting to charge consistently because it says that in order to do so it needs to update the software. I thought it was my Vava USBC hub from Amazon I got or my other charger. Has this happened to anyone else? Seems odd.

Have you tried charging from an “official” apple power brick? If so do you get the same message?
