iPhone video stuck on telephoto lens

I’ve discovered a bug on my iPhone 14 Pro. If I start a video using the telephoto lens (3x in my case), I won’t be able to zoom back out to the 2x, 1x or 0.5x modes. If I start the camera in 1x, I can cycle through the higher modes.

My suspicion is that Apple is doing this to avoid the jarring element of switching lenses while recording. So when you zoom in, you’re always using the digital zoom. That’s why you can’t zoom out, because there’s nothing left on the sensor to show.

So while I’m fully conscious that the switch from one lens to another can be jarring, is there a way to force the camera app to allow this to happen?
