Keyboard scrolling for text windows

I’ve been looking around for a while now for a solution for this but can’t find anything. What I want is the same thing that existed for Word 5.1 (which I consider the best word processor ever) way back in the day—I want to be able to set keyboard shortcuts to scroll the window up and down, line by line, while editing text. Not typewriter mode, but similar, where I can hit a key to make the window scroll up or down while typing, just like clicking up or down in the scroll bar.

While typing and editing, I want to not have to use the trackpad/mouse at all while I’m writing, just hit whatever the keys are to make the window scroll up and down without moving the cursor. Like up and down arrow, but only scrolling the window and only for a few lines and not moving the cursor. I’m having a really hard time finding a way to do this.

Hoping somebody can tell me the obvious way I’m overlooking.

What Application are you using as your text editor?

It’s more likely you’ll find an application-based solution than a system-wide solution.

I’d really like a system-wide solution, but Obsidian is my current editor if anybody has anything for it.

With BetterTouchTool you can assign a Keyboard Shortcut (or many other triggers) to a Mouse Scroll Event with X/Y increments. Check it out.

Yes, that might be the way. I was hoping to avoid a rabbit hole but perhaps that’s how it has to be.
