Agree 100%. The only reasons to pay more for a mouse, IMHO, are ergonomics or specific features that you need. I use a Magic Trackpad for both reasons, but if I were to be buying a mouse I’d be looking for the cheapest one that fit my hand.
I use a Logitech MX Master 3 with my work Windows laptop. It is an excellent mouse and most/all the buttons work just fine without the Logitech software. And I make frequent use of the extra buttons.
While I mainly use a Magic Trackpad with the Mac, I can also use MX Master 3 with it (it can be paired with up to three devices, and switched by pressing a button on the bottom), and again it works fine without the Logitech software. I had installed and tried the Logi software, but removed it after a very short period (a week or two IIRC). I cannot install any software on the work machine.
I can easily recommend this mouse, but I can see no reason to use, let alone ‘subscribe’ to, their software. The mouse is going on 5 years old, and is working just fine. As noted above, the software lasted at most two weeks.
