MBP 4 freezing on Good Friday

Hello for the last 24 hours my Mac power book will freeze suddenly and I have to restart it to get it working again. I went on the Interwebs and saw a thread that said clean my Mac is the same as malware. This seems kind of goofy to me. I’ve never had a problem with it. Other than checking the activity monitor and using Safe reboot what should I try? I’d like to avoid a call to Apple if at all possible

How long after restarting before it freezes again?

This might be obvious, but is the battery charged? MacBooks get very slow and then non-responsive as the meter approaches zero.

Not obvious at all but I charged to 100%. Uninstalled CleanMyMac. Turned off all login items.

Last year, my new m4 MacBook Air would get the spinning beachball and become very slow. I found out a spotlight process was going crazy and sucking all the cpu. Launch Activity Monitor and see how much cpu corespotlightd is using. If it’s using a lot, go search the internet or reddit for something like: corespotlightd high cpu usage

I remember it took me several tries to get spotlight to behave, but eventually the m4 air became the performance beast I knew it could be.
