I would add, that you should not be applying any pressure. This is counterintuitive when coming from a cartridge razor. The weight of the razor is enough to do the work.
You will not get a baby smooth shave on your first pass. You keep reducing the beard with each pass till it’s gone.
First pass direction is with the grain of your beard. Second pass is across the grain. And third pass is against the grain. You may be happy with just two passes. To establish the direction of the grain of your beard let your beard grow for a day or two and then use a credit card to push against your beard in different directions. You’ll quickly establish with the grain and against the grain.
Make sure your lather is wet enough. If your lather is flaking off as you shave it’s two dry. A wetter lather gives more comfortable shave.
Change your blade often. If you start getting nicks and cuts and your technique is ok, the odds are that your blade needs changing.
There are videos on every aspect of DE shaving.
As with everything your technique will improve over time, so don’t be discouraged if it’s not perfect after one month. I’ve been doing this for 10+ years and am still learning.
