As you can see, I go for a minimal approach. The automator action launches several apps that I typically launch at the beginning of the day. It is an alias to a file in DropBox, so that I can use it either on my laptop (MacBook Pro Retina 15" early 2013) or on my Mac Mini at work. The desktop image changes periodically.
