My “Love”-“Hate” Relationship with AI: Here is the hate part

I literally get hundreds of work emails a day (don’t ask as is org issue - everyone copies everyone for everything). When I first turned Claude loose on it I almost cried with how much of the cruft and no response needed crap was in there I had been dealing with. Draft responses ready for review first thing every morning. Everything else filed or deleted.

Obviously, thorough instructions are needed.

I want the swarm of agents that infiltrates email clients and disables “reply all.”

Can I offer you some capital?

I get 3-4 offers a day. What on earth does a small consulting company need with capital?

Beats me. :man_shrugging:t3:

Thanks. I may give the Claude route a try. I’ll need to monitor it closely for a while to ensure it Claude does not redirect legitimate emails to junk causing me to miss them.

That is an intriguing approach, however, the type of AI slop emails I receive similar to the one in my original post do not include “unsubscribe” anywhere in the message.

I used SaneBox for a while; it is a good service. But I’m allergic to subscriptions; I try to avoid them wherever I can. :slightly_smiling_face:

This type of email isn’t new and doesn’t necessarily have to be AI written. I was an executive recruiter for a few years and many many emails like this were sent to people on LinkedIn, etc… in many cases, they are digging for leads.

I understand, but at least they were human and coherent— well, usually. I do not begrudge the digging for leads; those sending human-generated emails are merely trying to make a living. What I mainly object to is the awful, incoherent AI-generated slop and the inherent laziness reflected in having such emails sent. If you want me to consider your inquiry, at least send me a human-written, professional email. Slop will never get my attention or money.

Got it. That rule keeps legitimate email, that conforms to the CANSPAM act, out of my Inbox.

I only mentioned it because it’s one of my favorites. I thought you might find it useful. :grinning:

It is useful, and I did add it. I thought it was a great idea. It just doesn’t deal with the slop coming from AI. Thanks for the tip! :slightly_smiling_face:

And today I get this :

Subject: Raising from your network - Dr

Hey Dr, raising from your network, or from people who know your market?

Can I send a referral to an angel cohort focused on your space? No worries if not - reply and I’ll clear your info.

Best,

I would love to be proven wrong, but I havre a hunch a human wrote that form letter email. If it was AI, it likely would have taken the time to learn your name and put a more coherent-sounding email together.

Do private Christian schools even raise angel investment capital? Aren’t they mostly non-profit?

You may be correct; a human may have written it. If so, given how incoherent, inaccurate, and grammatically incorrect it is, I can’t imagine anyone wanting to do business with the individual.

As to angel investments, you are correct; we are non-profit. We raise money from donors, not investors.
