New Kindle help

Wow, nice discussion. For the Kobo, can you download a Kindle app and read Kindle books or is it strictly ePubs and Libby books?

Strictly DRM free ePubs, ePubs from Kobo, and Libby

I’ve been eyeing Boox Poke 5 since I have a few Kindle books but read primarily with Everand (formerly Scribd) on my iPad. I also have a few epub books I’ve purchased in the past. Seem like a perfect e-reader with audiobook capabilities too.

I’d like to hear more why using Boox is a worst experience overall.

Boox comes with a full Android (11) OS plus a bunch of Boox customisations on top.

Each app benefits from being having its e-ink/display settings configured to improve its performance on e-ink. This can be fiddly and unintuitive. I.e. it doesn’t “just work” like a Kindle.

However… if you want to use Readwise Reader or other third party reading apps on an e-ink display (which a Kindle can’t do) then there are few other options.

For me, it’s a worthwhile tradeoff, because I like Readwise Reader and prefer an e-ink display.

It’s a bit fiddly, in part because there are so many options, and it takes a while to figure them all out.

I’m very pleased with my Note Air 2+. It’s wonderful for note-taking, and I enjoy having Readwise Reader there. It’s a good work device.

I also have the Leaf2 (predecessor to the current Page) for more casual reading. It is indeed nice to have Kindle, Kobo, and Readwise Reader all in one place (and of course it’s also possible to load ePubs directly).

The drawback is, again, that it’s fiddly. Also, the Leaf2 (I can’t comment on the Page) is slow. The Kindle Paperwhite and Kobo Clara Colour are much snappier. I strongly prefer picking up whichever of those is appropriate for the book I’m reading, and dealing with Readwise Reader on an iPad or computer.

But YMMV, of course. Others might weigh the tradeoffs differently.
