Noteplan to obsidian?

ok ready to make the switch. Anybody have guidance on how to make the move? I don’t need to keep using noteplan and happy to use obsidian sync and move files from the “hidden” iCloud sync location to home directory vault location. All my files are .MD already. I don’t want to lose my daily, weekly, monthly calendar files as they contain info for my project files. I have very few attached non-markup files to deal with.

this would be a nice appendix for David’s Field Guide which I bought but don’t want to wait for that addition.

thanks in advance for your help,

Mark

Have you discussed somewhere else why you are doing this?

I’ve used both platforms over time and believe my workflows better align with Obsidian. All my task management is in OmniFocus even though I’ve tried both NotePlan’s and Obsidian’s approaches. I also want the backlinks to be listed at the bottom of my pages instead of the top. I do think Obsidian’s DataView and Advanced Tables plugins are a big plus for Obsidian. I don’t use block scheduling and usually have Noteplan’s calendar collapsed on the side as appointments/events live in Busycal. I know that Noteplan’s iOS client is superior to Obsidian but I don’t use it much other than occasional reference. I capture ideas with Drafts on my iPhone for later processing. I keep everything tied together via HookMark. I access Noteplan thru SetApp so it’s not a money thing.

For me, I’ve learned that there is no one single APP to do everything on every platform so I’m trying to cleanup my portfolio to use the best in class for each. HookMark, OmniFocus, DEVONthink, Drafts, Mindnode, Airmail (hold your catcalls LOL), MarsEdit, Ivory, Warp/Fish, Audio Hijack, and the last piece - Obsidian.

Hope this provides a good explanation for my thinking.

Sure does.Thanks. Sounds like you have assembled the collection of apps best suited to YOU. No one can argue with that.

All I did when I made the migration was look for Noteplan’s directories in iCloud Drive on my Mac, then click and drag those folders with my notes into Obsidian. It was a very smooth switch.

Anything special with moving daily/weekly/monthly/yearly directories/files?

When I was using the app, it was just dailies. I think that was also just a normal directory that NotePlan happened to keep in a separate spot for some reason. Just dragged and dropped it too, IIRC.

What @snelly said. Although noting that if you were using any of the “not strictly Markdown” features (task recurrence, etc.) you might have to set that stuff up again in Obsidian for it to work going forward.
