Photos on a new Mac

I’m in the process of setting up my new MacBook Air. I opened up the Photos app on it and it asked me if I wanted to use iCloud Photos. Yes, I did. I use it on my old MacBook Air and my iPhone. And most of my photos are now available on this new machine. Does this mean that I don’t have to transfer the Photos library manually from my old Mac? I should probably download all the photos onto this new machine, right? How do I do that?

Thanks

No need to copy over the library manually. iCloud Photos will take care of it.

To download all your photos to the new machine’s local drive, open the photos app and go to Preferences. On the iCloud tab, select “Download Originals to this Mac”.

Thanks Chris. It was set to that from the beginning. So I guess it is downloading now. I also have another Photos Library with old family photos that are not stored in iCloud. I will bring that over manually
