I think this is right. I almost went with Beck’s suggestion to buy a used one and then changed my mind at the last minute of the eBay auction. Spending money on a different keyboard won’t solve this issue — changing my habits will.
I’m continuing to mess around with layout customization. I’ve just solved another problem I’ve been having: arrow-key navigation. I created a keyboard layer for arrow-key navigation under WASD and swap to that in a couple of ways.
Here’s one problematic habit I can’t seem to find a solution for: cmd+w to close windows and tabs. Is there any ergonomic one-handed way to do that? Or does everyone use right-hand cmd and left-handed w?
I know you should use different hands for modifier and letter, but I use homerow mods and specifically made sure that w and t are on the left side, so I can browse the web with the right hand on the trackpad and the left hand on the keyboard
Cmd w for me is middle finger for cmd and ring finger of the same hand for w. This is easy enough for me.
That being said, you could have a layer where you remap a single key to the combination cmd+w.
Also, I use a vim extension for safari (vimari) which allows to use single keystrokes for common actions such as closing tabs or moving to the next one.
Ahhh, use Vim
You are an obsidian fan, right?
Obsidian has a very solid vim plugin, give it a try.
It comes with an ergonomic remapping of the arrow keys
