note apps …

After trying virtually every Notes app on the planet, I think I found home and it’s UpNote:
- Wonderfully flexible formatting.
- Multiple workspaces so that I can clip from the web and store everything accessible, but out-of-the-way and not on the file system.
- Markdown is there but never visible if you don’t want it to be. IOW essentially rich text in practice, which is what I’m traditionally used to.
- Graceful handling of images and PDFs. I’m actually storing most of my long PDFs in Apple Books.
- I had signed up for a lifetime license, later deleted the account. When I came back, my account was still there, and I didn’t have to pay any extra money. Most surprising!
- Durable backup to the file system and very easy to export everything in markdown.
- Decently fast synchronizing.
- Even though it’s an Electron app, it’s file size in memory is not that big.
- The biggest reason why I switched from Bear is UpNote’s flexibility in sorting notebooks:
Every notebook can have its own sort order, and the sidebar list can be sorted independently of how you sort the notebooks. This is critical for my use, as all of my notebooks need to be sorted by “Title A - Z”, but my journal notebook needs to be sorted “Title Z - A”.
