Reducing complexity and reaping the rewards

I’m on fibre. 300mb/s download and 60mb/s upload. I’m on Sequoia which is up-to-date.

That would be a problem for me. I create a keynote on my Mac and save it to iCloud. I go to my meeting where I need to present the keynote. I open iCloud it’s says it synced just now and the keynote isn’t there. That would be a nightmare scenario for me.

I’ve had little friction to be honest, and I have also seen issues in the past with Photos - in my experience it only does a complete sync when you connect a device to power.

I made sure all the files uploaded from my desktop and overnight all my data was synced (I transferred 1.5 TB of data from Dropbox/DevonThink to iCloud). I had an extremely fast connection and a high spec Mac, so that may have helped.

I’ve not yet experienced any glitches at all. I’m still super content with faster access to files. I’ve been using Spotlight all day and it’s indexed all my files perfectly (including PDFs and office files), and I’ve yet to have it fail to find anything I’ve thrown at it.

I don’t have any issues with Keynote and use it every day, my desktop always syncs with my iPad (I don’t use a laptop at work). I edit on the Mac and then immediately go to present on a daily basis and it’s always synced. With my previous system and DevonThink to Go, I always had to open the app, then wait for it to download and index for a couple of minutes - so this is much better for me than before.

I’ll update the thread if I do run into any problems, but I’m still delighted with the improved workflow and simpler file management system.

That has been my experience as well. Everything syncs quickly, and I’m able to find whatever I’m looking for.

I did have a problem with my phone, a new iPhone 16, that would not sync a couple of folders. I had to turn iCloud off and then back on to get it to work.

It’s a tricky beast. Fickle at times.

Same here. I switched to iCloud syncing (from Dropbox) about 4 years ago and have never had a missing or slow file/photo/anything.

If I import a large number of photos (say, hundreds) into Photos, yah, it can take a bit to sync - meaning “become available on another device.” But iCloud is no slower at this than Lightroom/Adobe, in my experience.
