Sea gate external hard drive do I have to format it?

I bought a new SeaGate external hard drive that I cannot get it to work.

I tried dragging files to it and it will not accept anything.

Do you think I just need to exchange it?

You can format it using Disk Utility. Here are instructions:

Just be sure you select the right disk, as everything will be erased.
